A house fire caused $80,000 in damage to an Ainaloa subdivision home Thursday morning, according to a Hawaii Fire Department statement.
Eight units responded to a 6:16 a.m. alarm of a fire on Azure Road in Pahoa, with the first unit arriving nine minutes later.
Firefighters found smoke billowing out of the rafters and a fire in the carport. The carport’s laundry room sustained heavy fire damage, with fire damage extending into the adjoining bedroom and rafters and smoke damage throughout the structure.
No one was home at the single-family residence, and, according to police, squatters had been evicted from the home about a month ago and there was no power to the house.
About $100,000 in estimated property value was saved, and the cause of the fire is under investigation.
